The Georgia Tech Police Department Office of Emergency Preparedness is encouraging students, faculty and staff to become better prepared for any emergency and to become more aware of severe weather threats. Together with the National Weather Service (NWS) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), the Office of Emergency Preparedness is observing Severe Weather Awareness Week from February 1st through February 5th

The Georgia Tech Police Department Office of Emergency Preparedness is encouraging students, faculty and staff to become better prepared for any emergency and to become more aware of severe weather threats. Together with the National Weather Service (NWS) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), the Office of Emergency Preparedness is observing Severe Weather Awareness Week from February 1st through February 5th. The following are the themes designated by GEMA and the NWS for this year:

  • Monday, Feb. 1 - Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio
  • Tuesday, Feb. 2 - Thunderstorm Safety
  • Wednesday, Feb. 3 - Tornado Safety
  • Thursday, Feb. 4 - Lightning Safety
  • Friday, Feb. 5 - Flooding

Georgia Tech Campus Events
The Office of Emergency Preparedness will be engaged in multiple activities during Severe Weather Awareness Week to bring greater awareness to the Georgia Tech Campus.

  • Monday, Feb. 1 - Kickoff- Student Center Campaign & Office Outreach
  • Tuesday, Feb. 2 - CERT Class; Brown Bag Class: Hazardous Weather Awareness & Mitigation Strategy

  • Thursday, Feb. 4 - GTENS, SCREAM, Siren Warning System Live Campus Test; Building Managers’ Meeting
