The Patrol Division is the most highly visible component of the Department. Officers work to prevent crime through proactive community-oriented policing and high visibility patrol methods. They deliver dedicated service in three 8-hour watches daily, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each watch is managed by a watch lieutenant, supervised by two sergeants, and operated with a minimum of 10 police officers who patrol in vehicles, bicycles and/or foot patrols. Patrol services include, but are not limited to:
- prevention and detection of crimes and accidents
- identification and apprehension of suspects and offenders
- maintaining public order
- keeping the peace
- discovering and managing hazardous situations.
Assigned to each watch are officers who have received enhanced training and resources for responding to life-threatening events and other emerging crises occurring on and around campus.
