Originally scheduled for Sept. 12, the annual Georgia Tech Police Department’s Campus Safety Day has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 19.

Designed to raise awareness of the techniques and resources available to keep students, faculty and staff safe, Campus Safety Day features a number of public safety agencies operating in and around Midtown Atlanta. Demonstrations and exhibits will be on display on Skiles Walkway and around Tech Green.

Highlights for this year’s event include the following:

• Police, fire and EMS vehicles
• Demonstrations of the LiveSafe smart phone app
• Mounted patrol with horses
• K9 demonstrations with dogs
• S.W.A.T. and Bomb Squad demonstrations
• Rolling crash simulator
• Tours of the Social Media Center at GTPD

There will be many different organizations teaming up to make sure the students see all of these different scenarios, including the Atlanta Police Department (APD) S.W.A.T., APD Mounted Patrol, MARTA, Chic fil-A, Emory University and Georgia State University, among others.

“There are many activities we deploy in order to engage with students, and this is one of the biggest and best attended,” said GTPD Officer Jessica Howard, who heads the Campus Safety Day planning. “It’s at the beginning of the semester because we want to raise students’ awareness and hopefully get them to download the LiveSafe app. We want to equip them to be safe and have a great experience at Georgia Tech.”
