GTPD arrested Marco Andrews for two robberies on North Avenue November 17.

The Georgia Tech Police arrested Marco Andrews on Nov. 17 after two robberies that occurred around 8:30 a.m. on North Avenue near Tech Parkway.

The victims called to report the incidents, and GTPD used its network of security cameras to locate Andrews. He was off campus at Spring Street when he was taken into custody by GTPD officers. Andrews was booked at the Fulton County Jail and charged with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, theft by receiving stolen property and robbery.

When Andrews was arrested he was found to be unarmed. He used a vape pen to simulate a weapon when he confronted the victims.

“We’ve been investing in crime prevention tools like the cameras for just this situation,” said Chief Robert Connolly. “When the victims called, we were able to make a positive ID and track him down quickly. Our goal is to make an arrest before a suspect leaves the campus, and this was a great example of the victims calling quickly, technology enabling us to find the suspect, and great response from our officers.”
