Georgia Tech Police arrested Elijah Louise Battise of Riverdale on April 24 in connection with a string of scooter thefts on campus. Battise has been booked at the Fulton County Jail on six counts of felony burglary in the second degree and six counts of misdemeanor theft by taking.
A juvenile accomplice was also arrested during the investigation.
Battise was apprehended by plainclothes officers at the Centergy parking Deck near the area for bicycles and scooters. Based on video surveillance, Battise was wanted for stealing eight mopeds and scooters from the North Avenue Apartments parking deck during the week of the Institute’s spring break, March 17-25. He was also wanted by Atlanta Police for the theft of three mopeds from the Square on Fifth apartments near campus.
“This arrest was the result of good police work,” said GTPD Chief Rob Connolly. “We have resources to keep this campus safe. We used a combination of technology and old-fashioned foot patrols to bring him in.”
In addition to the criminal charges, Battise has been issued a lifetime ban from the Georgia Tech campus.
