Property & Evidence Unit

The Property & Evidence Unit, part of the Criminal Investigations Division, is responsible for securing and tracking all items collected by GTPD officers, including evidence, seized property, and lost and found items.

Evidence and Seized Property
Items collected during criminal investigations are stored until they are no longer needed for law enforcement purposes. At that point, they are either returned to the rightful owner or destroyed. Non-evidentiary items will be discarded after 90 days.

Lost & Found and Property Pickup
High-value lost items turned into GTPD are securely stored by the Property & Evidence Unit. We make every effort to identify and return items to their rightful owners.

To report a lost item, you may submit a description using HERE . Please include your name, contact number, the date and location where the item was lost, and a detailed description. Due to the volume of inquiries, we will only contact you if we believe we have a match.

For high-value items such as jewelry, passports, or electronics, we recommend visiting the department to file a police report.

If your item is located and ready for return, property pickup hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, excluding state holidays. To ensure staff availability, please call 404-229-4237 to schedule an appointment. A valid photo ID is required to retrieve your property.

Other Lost Items
Lower-value items such as clothing, notebooks, backpacks, keys, and headphones are often stored in the building where they were found. Check with the Residence Hall Director or Building Manager of the location where you believe you lost the item.
