Open Records
In accordance with Institute policies and procedures, the GTPD Records Unit works closely with the Georgia Tech Office of Institute Communications when complying with the Georgia Open Records Act.
To request a copy of a police report, please complete the Police Report Request Form. Once completed, you may print and:
- email the form to openrecords@police.gatech.edu
- mail the form to: Records Unit, Georgia Tech Police Department, 965 Hemphill Avenue NW, Atlanta GA 30032-0440
- deliver the request at the Police Department any weekday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Police reports are public records subject to the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71.2); however, not all records are subject to release. Data may be subject to redaction in accordance with federal and state confidentiality statutes. In accordance with Institute policy and procedures, all requests received and processed by the Georgia Tech Police Department are reviewed and distributed by the Open Records Officer in Georgia Tech Institute Communications.
Please allow at least three (3) business days from the date of the incident to make your request. If the records exist but are not immediately available for production, we will provide a description of the records and a time and/or cost estimate for their release. The Open Records Officer in Institute Communications will provide an answer to the request on or within three (3) business days after receiving the request form, excluding state holidays and emergency closures.
The report will be delivered in accordance with the indicated method of pickup; however, email is preferred.
