GTPD Announces Interim Leadership Changes
Thursday, August 27, 2026
The Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) will implement temporary leadership changes beginning September 8th as Deputy Chief Carla Cook takes on an interim leadership role with the University System of Georgia (USG).
Deputy Chief Cook has been appointed Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Safety and Security and USG Chief of Police while the University System conducts a search for a permanent successor for the role.
The appointment provides an opportunity for Georgia Tech to continue supporting the broader University System of Georgia while sharing the experience and leadership Deputy Chief Cook has developed throughout more than 26 years in law enforcement and public safety.
During Deputy Chief Cook’s interim assignment with the USG, Captain Troy Walcott will serve as Interim Deputy Chief of GTPD.
GTPD’s mission and commitment to the Georgia Tech community remain unchanged. The department will continue providing the same level of service and support to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the surrounding community throughout the interim period.
