Open Record Request

In accordance with Institute policies and procedures, the GTPD Records Unit collaborates with the Georgia Tech Office of Institute Communications to comply with the Georgia Open Records Act. 

Police reports are public records subject to the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71.2); however, not all records are subject to release. Information may be subject to redaction in accordance with federal and state confidentiality statutes. 

All requests received and processed by the Georgia Tech Police Department are reviewed and distributed by the Open Records Officer within Georgia Tech Institute Communications.

Requests involving court records or records of court actions, proceedings, hearing, finding or disposition, which fall under the Judicial Branch of government, should be made directly to the administrative office of the appropriate court. Requesting a Form

To request a copy of a police report, please submit the following form online.

Response Time and Delivery

Please allow at least three (3) business days from the date of the incident to make your request.  In accordance with the Georgia Open Records Act (O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70 et seq.) Georgia Tech Institute Communications will respond to the requests within three (3) business days of receipt, excluding state holidays and emergency closures.  

If the records exist but are not immediately available for production, the requester will be provided with a description of the records and an estimated timeline and/or cost for release. 

Record Management

The Records Unit maintains accurate and secure records of GTPD responses to calls for service, investigations, arrests, citations, accidents, and other law enforcement and public safety activities in accordance with federal, state, and University System of Georgia requirements. The Records Unit is also responsible for submitting accident reports to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Forwarding seized driver’s licenses to the appropriate Department of Driver Services office and Delivering citations to the appropriate court in a timely manner.
