The Special Events Unit is responsible for the planning, coordinating, directing and management of safety and security at all special events and construction projects on the campus requiring police personnel. It is the policy of the Georgia Tech Police Department that any and all policing or security activities, assignments or functions on the campus will be performed by, at the direction of, or with the prior approval of GTPD. Departments or organizations are prohibited from independently contracting outside policing or security services without the prior approval of GTPD.
If you would like to arrange security services for your event, please contact Sergeant Archie Hill at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 404-385-6186.
The GTPD K9 officers work under the direction of the Special Events Unit. This unit specializes in detecting live explosives and providing protection, particularly during special events. Currently the unit features two highly trained dogs: Koda, a Belgian Malinois, and Miley, a Labrador. Officer Rob Turner is a certified explosive trainer in the state of Georgia; the unit is often requested by law enforcement partners across the state for sweeping potential explosives and providing training to other K9 officers.
